Five Yard Dog: Bio

Wendell Stroup - Drums

So deep in the pocket he's gotta look up to see lint. A monster of move and groove.

Wendell Stroup is our 'groove monster' drummer and does double duty as he is also the drummer for The Alan Wright Band. Wendell has a varied background, from backing Johnny Mathis' lesser known brother Ralph Mathis, to a four year stint with a circus orchestra, to playing on the movie soundtrack of Tango & Cash, and doing fill-in work with local bands. He is capable of sitting in with anybody on any style of music. His sense of groove is unlike any other drummer I've played with. We are very glad to have him with us.

Dave Asmussen - Guitar

He's a bluesman with a rock 'n roll heart. A mesmerizing blend of tone, touch, timing and taste.

Dave was one of the founding, charter members of the Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society. He was also the founder and leader of The Moxie Blues Band. Dave started playing guitar due to being a friend of the great Randy Rhoads of Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot fame.....

We're trying to squeeze more bio details out of Dave. Stay tuned. :-)

Michael Moxley - Bass, vocals

Loves bass...has bass...plays bass. Sings when asked to. Holds doors open for the elderly.

For 4 ½ years I was bass player & lead vocalist for The Moxie Blues Band, a dynamic blues-rock trio based in Santa Clarita, California USA. They played a choice collection of older and newer blues covers in a style all their own, along with some powerful originals. The band reached far greater heights than first envisioned. They opened for blues legends Robben Ford, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Joe Bonamassa, among others and shared the stage with Johnny Winter and Eric Sardinas. They also performed for many charity events sponsored by the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Sadly, as of 3/18/09, The Moxie Blues Band dissolved. It was time to move forward with a trio of my own. Playing with the 'Moxie crew' was a great education. Finally, I felt ready to make the jump to bandleader.

In the relatively short time (8 years) since returning to music after a long absence, I've been very fortunate to play in the same bands with some exceptional musicians. Dave Asmussen and Alan Wright on guitar, Carlos Calvillo and Wendell Stroup on drums, Mr. Chris Sabie on harmonica have always made me sound better than I probably am, and for this I'm grateful.

Some of you may know me on the internet as 'blowinblue'.
