Five Yard Dog: Bio

Michael Moxley - Bass, vocals

Loves bass...has bass...plays bass. Sings when asked to. Holds doors open for the elderly.

Michael didn't start playing bass until his late twenties while living in a small mountain community named Auberry CA. He played from 1977-1985 in various mountain and Fresno CA area bands. He then took a 17 year break from playing until starting back up again in 2002 while residing in Santa Clarita CA. Michael credits Mr. Dirk Fischer at College of the Canyons in Valencia CA for motivating him to take up bass again and try his hand at singing.

For 4 ½ years he was bass player & lead vocalist for The Moxie Blues Band, a dynamic blues-rock trio based in Santa Clarita CA. They played a choice collection of older and newer blues covers in a style all their own, along with some powerful originals. The band reached far greater heights than first envisioned. They opened for blues legends Robben Ford, Joe Bonamassa, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers among others and shared the same bill with Johnny Winter and Eric Sardinas. They also performed for many charity events sponsored by the Los Angeles City Fire Department and the LAFD Fire Hogs motorcycle club. However, as of 3/18/09, The Moxie Blues Band dissolved. It was time to move forward with a group of his own. Playing with the 'Moxie crew' for those 4 ½ years proved to be a great education. Finally, Michael felt ready to make the jump to bandleader. And so he did. And Five Yard Dog was born. 5YDG enjoyed a regular gigging schedule at some very cool venues and events from June 2009 to August 2011. Michael then chose to take a temporary break from performing but has plans to start up again when 'the fire returns'.
